INDIA - CURSE 2012
Was she belle for just then,As she weaved her dream so fine?If he cared to spare that bleb,Then it's life that trails her way.Was it fear that failed her then,As he pinned her limbs apart? If that's feat for savage man,Then he's worthless brutal being.
Was she such an ill-fate flesh,As he thrust her filthy harsh? If it's quest for treat so curt,Then his life is squalid tale.
Was it blood that wet her down,As he slit her dreams apart? If that's sin he dumped in her. Then it's pain that signs her life. Was it rousing for this brute,As he saw her piteous sob?If that's fatuous for his heart,Then his kin is height of flaws. Was he nursed on Lady's breast,As her Knight stressed moral life? Then I promise dreams are safe.
Though I have my own doubts on how this post is going to matter in a democracy that spent Rs 42 as a compensation per rape victims in the recent financial year, I'm posting this to express my deepest concerns and point out the root cause of this national curse. It's high time we act and ensure safety for women, children and the girls yet to be born.

Too painful that this curse still going on this very moment, in some corner of the world, as I am reading these words. :(
ReplyDeleteI liked how this common topic has been so sincerely woven!
I dream of those days, when they will safe.
(A too good attempt at poetry, anyways.)
@Kinara: thank you kinara. If we love our children, impart values and ethics living by examples, then I'm sure we'll be able to overcome this hurdle.
DeleteSuperb post Leo. Good attempt at poetry . . .
ReplyDeleteIts so bad that this evil still prevails in this world. Change starts at home. It will be good if this post of yours is able to save even one helpless girl from this curse . . .

@Ashwini Dey: Thank you Ashwini. Yes, change must starts from home and that's the only remedy I can think of.
DeleteGlad you wrote about it...as a popular blogger on indiblogger--you do a great deal of good by just choosing what topic you want to write about!
ReplyDelete@Bhavana: Thank you Bhavana. To be frank, I simply write what comes to my mind. Glad you like the topics I write about.
Deletewow... got goosebumps just reading this. Such a pleasure to come back.
ReplyDelete@Kajal: welcome back and thank you so much for those encouraging words..
DeleteAre we men at shame? Is it curse only for a day? or for a life time? i am afraid to defend a community which puts itself on shame.
ReplyDeleteVery strong post Leo.
@Mak: thank you Mak. It's not about defending or even blaming. It's the atmosphere at home that makes someone so insensitive to pain and human emotions. that's where we need to intervene.
DeleteWait wait wait wait..Waiting for the day Rapes don't happen.....Very deep poem...
ReplyDelete@☂☆ Vållῐ ★♬: thank you valli. "WAIT" that's something I had had concealed in. Glad that you picked it up. All of us are waiting for that day when girls can walk even the most deserted streets safe.
Delete"RAPE" is a life time curse to female gender. Unless the awareness in men and our law changes, these rapists live with their heads up without any guilt.
ReplyDeleteDeep emotions, You have nicely written in poetic words
@Bharathi: thank you. Glad you like it.
Deleteeeks... big curse been discussed around so well with the poem.. dark in the night, I get a thought. what was so good that he found in that gal of 3 or 4 years (or they are aged in 3 or 4 months sometimes) that he had to rape her? I keep fearing of lying to my family and they have no shame in raping their own family as well as the victim's family! damn, endless topic if we keep discussing but it wont matter to them unless they are shot dead in under the sun!!
ReplyDelete@JKHoNa: True, its really an endless topic to discus. It may not matter to them, but it must matter for each one of us bringing up a child at home. It's our duty to ensure that our children don't turn social harm like this. And for that I suggest we need to intervene at home by imparting moral values and ethical principles to our children. Thank you JKHoNa.
DeleteI seriously didn't knew this Rs. 42 thing...How can these SOB just take it like its nothing... :O
ReplyDeletenice composition...I hope it spreads as much as it could... :O
@CYNOSURE Thank you cynosure. If you take a look at the original article, you'll see, how the compensation dropped to a very low value in the recent yrs.
DeleteRs. 42 compensation for rape victims is downright appalling. It surely is India's biggest curse. :( A very strongly worded poem Leo.
ReplyDelete@Akshay Kumar G: Thank you akshay. It is the biggest curse of our time.
DeleteSigh. This is bad. And I read the attached article too. Very sad. Your words are beautiful.
ReplyDelete@Zeba: thank you zeba for those encouraging words.
DeleteIt's a shame that the government values rape victims at mere Rs. 42 :( Does any quantity of money going to help these girls cope with the lifelong trauma they face? Very touching post Leo.
ReplyDelete@Ashwini: true, no amount money can cope the life long trauma she faces. Thank you ashwini.
DeleteVery disturbing indeed. A pity that rapists don't consider the horror women endure after the incident.
ReplyDeleteEven more appalling is the government's approach towards such cases; one of the latest examples being Mamata Banerjee punishing cops who solved a rape case.
Thanks for pointing these out...
@Vishal Kataria: That was one such miserable state of affairs. I have no idea why such strange things happen here. but for sure we can make a difference. Let's start intervening at the domestic levels and upbring our children with moral values and ethical principles. I think if all of us work together in that way, tomorw will be a safe day for girls.
Deletebeautifully woven words around the concept ...well govt did announce compensation for rape victims but i strongly feel emotions can never be weighed with wealth !
ReplyDelete@alka narula: true, no amount of money can compensate the emotional and physical trauma. thank you alka.
DeleteNice poem. However I really doubts about the RS 42 compensation news. If the news true it is really a big shame.
ReplyDelete@Siju George: It's true. You can confirm it with the link provided in the post. Rs. 42 is the average compensation per rape victim during that year. thank you siju.
Deletewonderful..really touched!!:)
ReplyDelete@Geet: thank you geet.
DeleteToo painful:) ....I am glad that you wrote abt it...
ReplyDelete@ Seema: Thank you seema. Glad you like it.
DeleteYou have taken up such a sensitive issue-thanks...when will this scourge cease ?exemplary punishment is needed-even more than that miserable compensation.
ReplyDelete@indu chhibber: But indu, punishing the victims are not going to solve the issue completely. If we need to mop it off, we need to work really hard: first at the domestic level, then at the society level. thank you.
Deletetoo hurtful n painful..bt unfortunately dis is da hard fact ! well dne !
ReplyDelete@palak: thank you palak.
DeleteIn a society where a rape victim is treated as a downgraded human (impure to put it right) , justice will never be done. There is a lot that needs to change in how society handles it, more than legislative laws for number of Rape cases to go down and (as we might dare to dream), go to Zero.
ReplyDeleteNice Poem!
@-N- : True. There is a lot that needs to change. But it should start from home. that's my point. thank you N.
Delete... and to show you how much I love your blog.. here's something for you at http://purplechronicle.blogspot.com/2012/04/awesome-ness-has-arrived.html
ReplyDeletecheers,
Kajal
@Kajal:Thank you kajal for the kind gesture. But i'm afraid you got the wrong Leo here. Vinay(Leo) writes at I Rhyme Without a Reason" and that's not me. May be you need to tell him now. :)
DeleteNice post LeoPaw!
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me the html script for that "promote the post on Indiblogger" widget?
I would like to have it on my blog too.
Cheers!
Mansi
@eatpraylovemovies: That's not a widget I think. Just added an image link to the respective posts using HTML.
DeleteSad but true! Hope wise senses prevail!
ReplyDeleteRahul Bhatia: Thank you Rahul.
DeleteThis curse exists in every nation, every society and among every species (something we humans are not sole perpetrators) and we being civilized at least need to change this terrible crime or laws relating to it. Wonderful topic to be written about.
ReplyDelete@Farila: well said. We being civilized, we need to look at it seriously and intervene. Thank you Farila.
Deletebravo!!!
ReplyDelete@Sandra: thank you Sandra.
Deletevery strongly worded poem! your anger and pain is palpable through your words. Research shows, while choosing their victims, rapists choose those who are most vulnerable, not most desirable. That's why the little kids!
ReplyDelete@justanotherwakeupcall: that's the saddest part of the whole thing. We being part of a civilized society, it's our duty to protect the weak and vulnerable. Thank you justanotherwakeupcall
Delete"Was he a human or animal?
ReplyDeleteAs he always desire flesh,
If this gonna continue
Then he should be killed brutally"
The poem is worded strongly with a great message. Severe actions should be taken to stop this. Thanks for blessing this post.
@Someone is Special: That was really special comment from Someone Special... thank you.
DeleteWish , wish they would atleast spare the little ones both boys and girls some semblance of childhood. If only there was a law that gave you a Padma Shri for killing such inhuman brutes on sight, the world may be a tad safer.
ReplyDelete@Rek: But then we will be moving from one curse to another. I believe: shedding blood, pure or impure, isn't a solution at all. Thank you Rek.
Delete@Ana_treek:true, that's a big trauma. Unfortunately that's how our society is. thank you Keerthana.
ReplyDeleteRape is not physical or restricted only to the victim, its a crime on the victims mind, soul, his/her entire family and existence; is what my Crime Prof had told me in law school. Wise post and wish we as humans are contended. Control over one self is a lost art today.
ReplyDeleteLove Ash
@Indulge: That's the fact. It's like killing her again and again, letting her to suffer in all possible ways. Thank you Ash.
DeleteI have never understood why people are so brutal that they don't spare even an innocent child. In fact such people don't deserve to be called human - they are merely beasts...
ReplyDeleteThe poem is heart wrenching to say the least. I hope and pray that one day will come as Tagore said (though he is talking about a different kind of fearlessness and freedom):
"Where the mind is without fear
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake"
In the meantime, the least that we can do is to impart values, ethics and instill a sense of right and wrong in our children, so that at least they don't turn into monsters!!!
@Nisha: True. If we upbring our children well, imparting moral values and ethics, living by examples, that day is not far. thank you Nisha..
DeleteAgree with your words Leo..
ReplyDeleteMakes a lot of sense.
I really wish this would stop :|.
P.s I have a small award for you :D :). http://sweetsomethingz.blogspot.in/2012/04/awesomeness-personified.html
@Princess Poo: Thank you Pooja. It's a honor and feels really great to know that you like my writing.
Deletethe headlines fill us with such seething rage ... a rape is the darkest hour of humanity - every time it happens
ReplyDelete@Sujatha Sathya~ true, and as I go check the same news link again there is yet another new story. Really sad state of affairs. thank you Sujatha.
Deletebrilliantly expressed..I hope rape becomes history someday
ReplyDelete@Gargi Gupta~ It'll surely become history. But all of us have an active role to play to reach there. Thank you Gargi.
DeleteWas, as, if and then made a lot of impact. Kudos for writing this:)
ReplyDelete@Saru Singhal~ Thank you saru for those really inspiring words.
DeleteI really hope that this evil ends some day and that people can breathe and live without any worry regarding this matter.
ReplyDeleteI loved your words. It was well crafted :)
It is so sad to see how the victims suffer.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteDidn't know such a heinous act could be described in such a creative way and the message still sent across...love the boldness of the piece !
You have certainly expressed it in a novel way. Good to see you raising the heinous issue with such effect. Carry on the great work.
ReplyDeleteWell done yaar..cheers for the article :).
