Rape - The Curse Of Our Day.

INDIA - CURSE 2012

Was she belle for just then,
As she weaved her dream so fine?
If he cared to spare that  bleb,
Then it's life that trails her way.

Was it fear that failed her then,
As he pinned her limbs apart?
If that's feat for  savage man,
Then he's worthless brutal being.

Was she such an ill-fate flesh,
As he thrust her filthy harsh?
If it's quest for treat so curt,
Then his life is squalid tale.

Was it blood that wet her down,
As he slit her dreams apart?
If that's sin he dumped in her.
Then it's pain that signs her life.

Was it rousing for this brute,
As he saw her piteous sob?
If that's fatuous for his heart,
Then his kin is height of flaws.

Was he nursed on Lady's breast,
As her Knight stressed moral life?
Then I promise dreams are safe.

Though I have my own doubts on how this post is going to matter in a democracy that spent Rs 42 as a compensation per rape victims in the recent financial year, I'm posting this to express my deepest concerns and point out the root cause of this national curse. It's high time we act and ensure safety for women, children and the girls yet to be born.

Its so bad that this evil still prevails in this world. Change starts at home. It will be good if this post of yours is able to save even one helpless girl from this curse . . .

  6. Are we men at shame? Is it curse only for a day? or for a life time? i am afraid to defend a community which puts itself on shame.

    Very strong post Leo.

    1. @Mak: thank you Mak. It's not about defending or even blaming. It's the atmosphere at home that makes someone so insensitive to pain and human emotions. that's where we need to intervene.

  8. "RAPE" is a life time curse to female gender. Unless the awareness in men and our law changes, these rapists live with their heads up without any guilt.

Deep emotions, You have nicely written in poetic words

  9. eeks... big curse been discussed around so well with the poem.. dark in the night, I get a thought. what was so good that he found in that gal of 3 or 4 years (or they are aged in 3 or 4 months sometimes) that he had to rape her? I keep fearing of lying to my family and they have no shame in raping their own family as well as the victim's family! damn, endless topic if we keep discussing but it wont matter to them unless they are shot dead in under the sun!!

    1. @JKHoNa: True, its really an endless topic to discus. It may not matter to them, but it must matter for each one of us bringing up a child at home. It's our duty to ensure that our children don't turn social harm like this. And for that I suggest we need to intervene at home by imparting moral values and ethical principles to our children. Thank you JKHoNa.

  14. Very disturbing indeed. A pity that rapists don't consider the horror women endure after the incident.

Even more appalling is the government's approach towards such cases; one of the latest examples being Mamata Banerjee punishing cops who solved a rape case.

    Thanks for pointing these out...

    1. @Vishal Kataria: That was one such miserable state of affairs. I have no idea why such strange things happen here. but for sure we can make a difference. Let's start intervening at the domestic levels and upbring our children with moral values and ethical principles. I think if all of us work together in that way, tomorw will be a safe day for girls.

  21. In a society where a rape victim is treated as a downgraded human (impure to put it right) , justice will never be done. There is a lot that needs to change in how society handles it, more than legislative laws for number of Rape cases to go down and (as we might dare to dream), go to Zero.

  30. Rape is not physical or restricted only to the victim, its a crime on the victims mind, soul, his/her entire family and existence; is what my Crime Prof had told me in law school. Wise post and wish we as humans are contended. Control over one self is a lost art today.

  31. I have never understood why people are so brutal that they don't spare even an innocent child. In fact such people don't deserve to be called human - they are merely beasts...

The poem is heart wrenching to say the least. I hope and pray that one day will come as Tagore said (though he is talking about a different kind of fearlessness and freedom):
"Where the mind is without fear
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Where the mind is led forward by thee
    Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake"

In the meantime, the least that we can do is to impart values, ethics and instill a sense of right and wrong in our children, so that at least they don't turn into monsters!!!

    1. @Nisha: True. If we upbring our children well, imparting moral values and ethics, living by examples, that day is not far. thank you Nisha..
