From ".com" to ".in" - What a changeover mama ?

After a series of events that surprised me with an unusual ".in" instead of ".com" on some Indian blog URLs (and finally mine), a fellow blogger clarified things today.

Google is migrating its Blogger Top Level Domains from ".com" to localized domains in some countries like India. This will help Google to filter/ block/ remove contents complying with the local law and regulatory.

Which indirectly means: We will not be able to read a blog that does not meet the criteria set forth by a censor board while it will be on net for the rest of the world.

We are soon going to have an on looker Big Brother closely watching and telling us what to read/write and what not to. :(

  10. I really don't understand why people want to do such things. I am frustrated. One ruling the other. Are we really living in a democratic country? Food for thought and informative article

  14. Its is same in US,,, surprisingly same Google has made its logo black to oppose censorship in US.... this is assuming the reason to migrate is to comply with censorship laws..

  15. Scary man.. I was reading this article which claims that the future of the internet is changing as we speak.. the freedoms which we once used to enjoy on the net r slowly being taken away by stronger forces under the guise of high sounding words like "security", "protection" just to suit their ulterior motives..

Nice of u to have highlighted this, Leo Paw.. hope more people are aware of this...

  22. Well, if the government asks for it, they have to at least look like they are complying.
